Asian Thought: Philosophy, Art, and Literature
This theme will examine the thought of India, Southeast Asia, China, and Japan, past and present,a s expressed in philosophical texts, visual art and music, and literature. Attention will be given to demonstrating the interconnections among these works and disciplines. Classes will consist of combination of lectures and discussion groups. They may also include vists to art museums and other Asian cultural institutions in the Bay area. The three discipline courses are: Philosophy 2605 - Asian Thought - Buddhist thought of India, Southeast Asia, and Japan as expressed in its philosophical texts, visual art and music, and literature; demonstration of the interconnections among these disciplines. Theatre 2211 - Asian Thought II - Modern Languages and Literature 2831 - Asian Thought - The school of Zen in China and Japan as expressed in its philosophical texts, visual art, music, and literature. How texts demonstrate the interconnection among the arts disciplines. Updated
