Shown below are some of the samples prepared by the students. The picture (left) of Bottlebrush (Callistemon sp.) was taken by Hoang Ngoc, a student in Dr. Lynn Elkin's Biological Photography class at CSUH. The second picture is an image of Callistemon pollen grains. These unusual pollen grains can be seen only with the aid of a scanning electron microscope. This sample was prepared by Tara Hills 6th grade student Jeff Chen.

The next images are of a daisy (Chrysanthemum maximum). The scanning electron microscope images are of the petals of the daisy, each at a higher magnification. The final image shows a pollen grain which was trapped in a small spider web between the petals. Samples of the daisy petal used for scanning electron microscopy were prepared by Tara Hills 6th grade student Lisa Junier. The picture of the daisy was taken by Joe Berryhill, a student in Dr. Lynn Elkin's Biological Photography class at CSUH.
