WebFocus DSS Data Marts
Certain CSUEB WebFocus DSS Databases are being redesigned using true and modern Data Warehouse and Data Mart design techniques in order to gain better efficiences relative to performance and storage.
The Data Mart Design is present both in the Test and Production Environments at California State University East Bay. Migration to Intelligent Data Partitioning in S390 Focus v7.1.1 was first completed in 2001. Archived Data Mart Partitions are accessible via WebFocus and Oracle.
The Data Mart method was chosen to insure a responsive, customer centered approach to data needs. Changes, when necessary, are rapid and costs are extremely low. Existing FOCUS platforms are used which have had Data Partitioning capabilities for years. Additional hardware and software were unnecessary in the current phase.

For a reference on the advantages of the Data Mart Approach read the ZDNET article. For information on WebFocus Data Mart courses contact the WebFocus DBA.
